Female Form Study in Terracotta and Grey Ground

£24.00

Captured from a seated, rear-facing angle, this original wash and ink piece investigates classical figurative alignment through a singular, resting silhouette. Continuous, fine fountain pen contours chart the winding line of the spine and the curve of the shoulder, using deliberate changes in nib pressure to anchor the physical frame onto the page with an unforced studio clarity.

The earthy distribution of colour builds texture through a warm palette, layering rich terracotta and warm sepia watercolour washes over the back to suggest muscle and light. This warm gradient is balanced by a horizontal patch of deep grey wash at the base to ground the seated figure, while a delicate spray of fine reddish-brown droplets drifts outward into the left negative space.

A dense, cleanly blocked hair arrangement in black ink balances the top of the frame. Positioning these fluid, multi-tonal values symmetrically against wide fields of the textured background ensures an authentic gallery look that focuses fully on minimal structural geometry and natural posture.
