Entwined Hearts In Lincoln Cathedral Limestone #5
£30.00
Entwined hearts, carved by hand in Lincoln Cathedral limestone and finished with gold enamel paint.
The stone was sourced from the now defunct quarry owned by the cathedral on Riseholme Road in Lincoln, and is the same stone used for the original construction of the minster, as well as it’s ongoing restoration.
Opened in the mid 1800’s the quarry has now sadly ceased extraction due to the constraints of it’s location.
The stone is now a rarity, and each piece is unique in shape and size. It’s geological classification is a Middle Jurassic limestone from the Inferior Oolite Series, formed approximately 165 million years ago.
The markings that can be seen on each piece of stone are ooids and fragments of marine fossils.
All of the pieces available here are off cuts. Please study the pictures carefully as any chips and irregularities seen aren’t defects; they are part of the character of the stone.
The approximate sizes are:
Height103mm
Width93mm
Thickness30mm
